Thụ Phấn hoa

Hoa bí đực với hoa bí có cái nhuỵ khác nhau.  Gần cuối tháng 9 rồi mà hoa bí vẫn nở nhiều.  Kết trái trể như lúc này thì không biết tới cuối tháng 10 có bí để chưng bày cho vui Halloween năm nay không đây???.  Ngày nào tui cũng lọ mọ với mấy cái hoa bí mới nở.  Anh xã Kim hỏi :

- Em làm gì mà sáng nào cũng quanh quẩn với cây bí ???

-Em thụ phấn cho hoa bí, cái hoa bí "meo" này nó không thể tự tới thụ phấn cho mấy cái hoa "fi meo" mọc cách xa nhau đâu.

Anh cười

- Xuỳ ...ong bướm bay quanh đó làm gì cần tới phiên em.

- Có nhiều kiến bu đầy nhị hoa nhưng kiến đâu có làm việc thụ phấn cho hoa đâu.

Vậy là tui hái hoa "meo"-male- chặm vào hoa "fi meo"-female- rồi hôm khác ra xem hoa "fi meo" đã bị thụ phấn nhân tạo đang héo rồi thì trái bí con có lớn ra chút nào không ? Có trái phát triển nhưng có trái thì không lớn ra mà teo khô lại.  Cho nên chưa chắc rắc phấn hoa cho từng cái hoa nở mà sẽ được trái bí đâu.  Mưu sự tại nhân và ong và bướm rồi kiến nữa, nhưng thành sự là kết ra trái bí thì còn tại duyên trời đó nhỉ.

Thời tiết vẫn nắng sáng chói chang và không mưa khô khốc.  Muà thu năm nay ấm áp quá.

Male squash flowers and female squash flowers have different pistils. It's almost the end of September but squash flowers are still blooming a lot. If the fruiting is late like this, I wonder if there will be squash to display for Halloween this year by the end of October???. Every day I fumble with the newly bloomed squash flowers. Kim's husband asked:

- What are you doing that you're hanging around the squash plant every morning???

- I pollinate the squash flowers, this "meow" squash flower can't pollinate the "fi meow" flowers that grow far apart.

He laughed

- Pfft... bees and butterflies are flying around, why do you need your turn?

- There are many ants swarming around the stamens but ants don't pollinate the flowers.

So I picked the "meow"-male flower and touched the "fi meow"-female flower and another day I went out to see if the "fi meow" flower that had been artificially pollinated was wilting. Did the baby squash grow any bigger? Some fruits grow but some do not grow but dry up. So it is not certain that sprinkling pollen on each flower to bloom will produce a pumpkin. It is up to the person, the bees, the butterflies and the ants, but the success of producing a pumpkin is up to fate.

The weather is still bright and sunny and there is no dry rain. This autumn is so warm.
